Hard Drive Failure

This server was up and down this past weekend because the hard drive was dying. The interval it would stay up before the drive stopped working kept getting smaller and smaller and last night about 11:30 I shut it down altogether. Once again it was Hiren's Boot CD to the rescue; I used a freeware tool on the disk called Partition Saver to successfully clone the failing drive to a good drive. It took three hours but it worked! I have never had any clone software successfully clone a Linux drive before so this is why I am so jazzed by this. I also now have a backup drive running Mandrake 10 all formatted and ready to go. Unfortunately I am assuming the blog spam started up again as soon as the server came up; it has gotten completely out of hand and I'm going to have to change how my blog comments work in order to fight it. Last week I had seven new people subscribe to my Bloglet update service which is exciting, but I hope it wasn't just spammers looking to see when my blog is updated so they can drop more spam on it. Not suprisingly the drive failure chewed up way more of my day than it should have, but what's new there. Hope your week is good.
